Taxus baccata ‘Fastigiata’ is a selected evergreen cultivar of the common yew, characterised by a marked vertical development, with erect branches that grow narrowly upwards, adhering almost completely to the trunk. This gives the plant a slender, columnar profile, perfect for architectural, formal or minimalist compositions.

The plant’s natural structure is densely branched, even at the base, making it suitable for use as a vertical visual barrier or a structural accent in historic, modern, or urban gardens. The leaves are flat, flexible needles, dark glossy green in color, highly ornamental and persistent throughout the year.

This variety can reach heights between 3 and 6 meters, while maintaining a compact width, which makes it ideal for narrow spaces or along avenues.

Being dioecious, only the female specimens produce the typical red arils (false fruits), which are highly decorative but potentially toxic if ingested.

Taxus baccata ‘Fastigiata’ is highly adaptable, tolerating shade, urban pollution, regular pruning, and a variety of soil types, as long as they are well-drained.

Thanks to its slow growth, it doesn’t require frequent maintenance and is perfect for those seeking an elegant, tidy presence with low upkeep.
