Cedrus deodara ‘Pendula’ is a weeping variety of the Himalayan cedar, a majestic and ornamental evergreen conifer native to the mountains of South Asia. This cultivar is characterized by its long, slender, cascading branches, which give the plant an elegant and highly scenic appearance.
The growth of Cedrus deodara ‘Pendula’ is medium-fast, reaching a height of 6-10 meters and a width of 3-5 meters.
The foliage consists of soft, bluish-green needles arranged in tufts along the drooping branches. The crown is open and flexible, with a slightly “cascading” appearance that gives the plant a sense of movement and lightness.
It prefers sunny locations and deep, well-drained soils, preferably slightly acidic or neutral. This species is hardy, resistant to cold down to about -20°C, and also tolerates windy conditions and urban pollution well.
Pruning should be done in moderation to maintain its natural weeping shape and remove any dead or damaged branches. It flowers in spring with small male and female cones, which produce elongated seeds that are rarely viable in cultivation.
This variety is ideal as a specimen plant in large gardens, parks, and green spaces, where it can best showcase its elegance and distinctive character.
