Tilia × hybrida ‘Argentea’ is a deciduous ornamental tree belonging to the Malvaceae family. It is a selected cultivar of the natural hybrid between Tilia cordata and Tilia platyphyllos, widely used across Europe in street plantings, parks, and gardens thanks to its elegant habit and decorative foliage.

This linden tree has a majestic, upright form with a broad, symmetrical pyramidal or oval crown. It can reach 25–30 meters in height, developing a straight, sturdy trunk with smooth gray bark when young that becomes longitudinally fissured with age. It grows rapidly, especially in the early years, and is known for its longevity.

The leaves are large, heart-shaped with serrated margins. The upper surface is bright light green, while the underside is silvery, creating a highly ornamental contrast. In autumn, the foliage turns a light yellow before falling. Flowering occurs from June to July, with creamy-yellow, highly fragrant flowers grouped in drooping clusters. The fruits are small, grayish, spherical nuts that are hard and woody, with little ornamental value.

Tilia × hybrida ‘Argentea’ is a hardy plant, resistant to cold down to –25/–30°C, and adapts well to various soil types, as long as they are well-drained.

It prefers sunny or partially shaded locations and adapts well to both rural and urban environments. It is tolerant of air pollution and wind, making it ideal for urban forestry and street planting. Maintenance is minimal: regular watering is needed only during the first few years, along with light pruning to remove damaged branches or to shape the tree.
