Parrotia persica is a deciduous ornamental tree native to the Caucasus and Iran, belonging to the Hamamelidaceae family. It is distinguished by its elegant habit, slow growth, and especially its spectacular autumn foliage, which offers a rich and vibrant color range, from golden yellow to deep red, with orange and purple hues.
The tree typically reaches a height between 6 and 10 meters, with an expansive and branching crown, creating a dramatic effect in any type of garden or park. The leaves, oval with slightly wavy edges, are glossy green during the growing season and transform into a stunning display of warm colors in autumn, making the plant particularly valued for its seasonal foliage.
The flowering occurs between late winter and early spring, before the leaves fully develop. The small flowers, lacking petals but characterized by prominent red stamens, add a decorative touch.
Over time, the bark peels in thin plates, revealing various shades of gray, green, and yellow, adding further aesthetic interest to the plant during winter.
Parrotia persica is highly resistant to cold and urban pollution, requires minimal care, and adapts to various soil types, although it prefers well-drained soils that are slightly acidic or neutral.
