Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Slender Silhouette’ is a compact deciduous selection of the classic Liquidambar styraciflua.
Its distinctive feature is its strictly columnar shape, making it perfect for narrow spaces, avenues, modern gardens, and landscape projects where width is limited. Despite its slender structure, it can reach 12–15 meters in height at maturity while maintaining a narrow width of just 1.5–2 meters.
The leaves are palmate, deeply lobed, resembling those of maples but with a slightly more rustic touch. In summer, they are a bright green, while in autumn they offer a spectacular color display, ranging from golden yellow to bright red to deep purple, often all on the same tree.
The bark is dark gray, adorned with resinous protuberances characteristic of the Liquidambar genus. It produces small, woody, spherical fruits that are decorative but not invasive.
Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Slender Silhouette’ prefers full sun exposure and adapts to various soil types, provided they are well-drained.
It is cold-hardy and tolerant of urban conditions, also enduring a certain degree of drought once well established. Thanks to its natural vertical form, it requires no special pruning, making it a practical, low-maintenance choice.
This plant is ideal for tree-lined avenues in narrow spaces, gardens, and vertical screens.
