Lagerstroemia indica is a small ornamental tree or large deciduous shrub native to Asia, known for its abundant summer flowering and decorative bark that peels off in patches.
Its flowers, similar to crêpe paper, range from pink to fuchsia, purple, white, or red, depending on the variety.
Lagerstroemia indica has an erect or bushy growth habit, with elegant branches and ovate leaves that turn red and orange in autumn. It is widely used as an avenue plant, as a stand-alone specimen, or for small urban gardens, thanks to its resistance to urban pollution, drought, and compact size. It is also highly resistant to temperatures down to -15°C.
