Koelreuteria paniculata is a deciduous species from the Sapindaceae family, native to China and Korea. This tree is highly valued for its elegant habit, striking summer flowers, and particularly distinctive decorative fruits.

It can reach a height between 6 and 12 meters, with a wide, rounded, and well-balanced canopy that provides pleasant shade. The trunk is light gray, often with slightly cracked bark.

The leaves are compound, pinnate, up to 30 cm long, with oval leaflets and smooth edges, bright green in color, turning golden yellow in autumn.

The flowering occurs in summer, between June and July, with small, bright golden-yellow, highly fragrant flowers grouped in large, branched panicle-shaped inflorescences.

The fruits appear as pink capsules, which turn bright red and eventually brown as they mature. These capsules persist on the tree even through the winter, adding a lasting ornamental element.

Koelreuteria paniculata is a resilient plant, well-tolerated to drought, urban pollution, and various soil types, as long as they are well-drained. It prefers sunny locations to fully express its blooming and the harmonious development of its canopy.

It is ideal for use as an ornamental tree in parks, public and private gardens, tree-lined avenues, and urban settings, thanks to its hardiness and low maintenance.
