Cercis siliquastrum, commonly known as Judas Tree, is an ornamental deciduous plant beloved for its spectacular spring flowering and all-season natural appeal. Native to the Mediterranean basin, it has been valued in gardens and urban landscapes for centuries for its hardiness, rusticity and decorative value.

In spring, even before the leaves appear, the branches become covered with small purplish-pink flowers clustered directly on the trunk and main branches, creating a distinctive and striking display. This flowering occurs between March and April and is one of the most spectacular features of the tree.

The canopy is rounded and light, with bright green, heart-shaped leaves that turn warm yellow tones in autumn, adding another seasonal interest. The fruits, which resemble small flat pods, appear in summer and persist for a long time, even into winter, adding a rustic and natural touch.

Cercis siliquastrum reaches an average height of 4–6 meters but can exceed 7–8 meters in ideal conditions. Its growth habit is generally spreading and irregular, making it perfect as a standalone specimen for gardens, public parks, or urban green spaces where a splash of spring color is desired without excessive maintenance.

It is a hardy species, tolerant of drought, poor and calcareous soils, and able to grow even in urban environments. It prefers sunny or partially shaded locations. It requires little pruning, mainly to maintain shape or remove dead branches.
