Betula utilis ‘Jacquemontii’ Doorenbos is a deciduous cultivar native to the Himalayas, best known for its spectacular white bark that peels in thin strips, creating a unique decorative effect throughout the year.
It is a medium-sized tree that can reach a height of 15–20 meters, with an elegant, upright, and slightly conical habit. The crown is open and airy, with slender, pendulous branches that give the tree a slender and graceful appearance.
The leaves are ovate with serrated margins, bright green during the growing season, turning a deep golden yellow in autumn, making the tree very decorative even during the colder months.
This birch prefers sunny or partly shaded locations and adapts well to fresh, well-drained soils that are slightly acidic or neutral. It is a species resistant to severe cold, suitable for temperate and mountainous climates, up to high altitudes.
From a maintenance perspective, Betula utilis ‘Jacquemontii’ Doorenbos is a low-maintenance plant that requires only regular watering during the first few years after planting and light pruning to maintain its shape or remove dead branches.
It is particularly suited for use as a specimen tree in large gardens or parks, but it can also be used in mixed landscape compositions to enhance green spaces with its pale bark and natural elegance.
