Photinia × fraseri ‘Dicker Toni’ ® is a selected evergreen variety of Photinia, appreciated for its naturally compact growth habit, easy maintenance, and strong ornamental value thanks to the characteristic bright red colour of its young shoots.
Unlike the ‘Red Robin’ variety, Photinia x fraseri ‘Dicker Toni’ has a more compact growth and a neater form, making it perfect for small formal hedges, flower beds, pots, and terraces. It is ideal for urban, residential settings, and even modern gardens where a low-maintenance yet highly ornamental plant is desired.
The leaves are glossy, leathery, and oval, persisting throughout the year. In spring and after each vegetative pruning, they produce new shoots that are bright red, gradually turning to glossy dark green over time.
The spring flowering, if not removed by pruning, produces slightly fragrant white panicle inflorescences, followed by small decorative red fruits.
It is a hardy, rustic, and versatile shrub, capable of adapting to various soil types, as long as they are well-drained, and can withstand frequent pruning. It tolerates urban pollution, wind, and short periods of drought.
Thanks to its low maintenance and consistent aesthetic value, this plant is an excellent solution for those looking for low evergreen hedges, seasonal color spots, or ornamental container plants.
