Acer pseudoplatanus is a deciduous tree that can reach a height of 20-30 meters, with a canopy that can spread up to about 15 meters wide. This species is known for its majesty, robustness, and its characteristic five-lobed leaves.

The trunk is generally straight and cylindrical, with bark that appears smooth and gray on young trees but becomes rougher and cracked with age. On the younger parts of the tree, the bark can also be greenish-yellow, with a mottled effect that gives the trunk a distinctive appearance.

The leaves are palmate, with five well-defined lobes, and have a dark green color on the upper side, while the underside is lighter and slightly hairy. The leaves are arranged oppositely along the branches, and during autumn they take on shades of yellow and orange, creating a beautiful color display.

The flowers are small and greenish-yellow, grouped in panicle inflorescences that bloom in spring, between April and May. The fruits are samaras, winged seeds arranged in pairs that mature in summer.

Acer pseudoplatanus prefers cool and humid environments but is quite hardy and tolerates a variety of soils, including clayey and poor ones. Although it adapts easily to soils that are not perfectly drained, it needs ample space to develop properly. The plant is also fairly resistant to cold and can tolerate frost. Additionally, thanks to its tolerance to air pollution, it is often used for street planting in urban areas.
